Abstract Harris hawks optimization (HHO) is a population-based metaheuristic algorithm, inspired by the hunting strategy and cooperative behavior of hawks. In this study, HHO hybridized with 10 different chaotic maps to adjust its critical parameters. Hybridization performed using four methods. First, 15 test functions unimodal multimodal features are used for analysis determine most successful map hybridization method. The results obtained reveal that increase performance show piecewise method effective one. Moreover, proposed compared algorithms in literature CEC2019 set. Next, applied three mechanical design problems, including pressure vessel, tension/compression spring, three-bar truss system as benchmarks. performances other popular literature. They algorithm can compete on solving given engineering problems very successfully.
